Elephant’s Feast Pop-Up

7 - 10 May

From 12pm

Elephant’s Feast is York’s only Sri Lankan food business, created by husband and wife team Kasun and Malkini out of a deep love for food, hospitality, and the bold culinary heritage of Sri Lanka. The café is located at 1 Derwent Walk, Huntington, York.

The journey began when Kasun and Malkini organised a Sri Lankan Day at the University of York, sharing the flavours and warmth of Sri Lankan food with the wider community. The response was so encouraging that it inspired them to take the idea further. That encouragement continued to grow through friends and guests, who repeatedly urged them to turn their passion for hosting and cooking into a food business after experiencing their food at gatherings and events.

At the heart of Elephant’s Feast is a passion for celebrating the flavours they grew up with, rich curries, proper spice, slow depth of flavour, and the unmistakable character of authentic Sri Lankan cooking. From the signature black pork curry to carefully selected Sri Lankan black teas, everything is rooted in bringing the true taste of Sri Lanka to York with warmth, pride, and personality.

Leading the charge is Kasun Sooriya Bandara Wijesinghe, a former Sri Lankan Navy officer, now fondly known as Trunky Bandara, the man behind Elephant’s Feast. What began as a dream to share the food of home has grown into a vibrant concept built on heart, heritage, flavour, and genuine hospitality.

The star attraction is Kottu, Sri Lanka’s most famous street food and, as Elephant’s Feast proudly calls it, York’s loudest meal. Chopped, tossed, and cooked on the griddle with all the noise, theatre, and aroma it deserves, Kottu is more than a dish; it is an experience.

Elephant’s Feast has built a strong local following, with a 5-star rating on Google and Facebook, 5 out of 5 on Just Eat, and 4.7 out of 5 on Uber Eats. These reviews reflect the care, flavour, and hospitality behind every meal.

Elephant’s Feast is all about honest Sri Lankan flavour, cheeky energy, and genuine hospitality. It brings something truly different to the city and gives York a proper taste of Sri Lanka, one loud, spicy, unforgettable plate at a time.
