Discover the Prophet Hen

Long ago in 1768, Mary Bateman was born. Aged 20, she moved to York, where this story begins. She had a very unusual hen… or so she claimed!

Mary told people her hen could lay eggs with messages of the future. People were amazed. Could it really be magic?

The truth was less magical than it seemed. Mary was actually secretly writing the messages and hiding them on the eggs.

The hen wasn’t magical at all! Mary Bateman was found out and hung at Clifford’s Tower on the 20th of March, 1809.
