Get creative this October half-term!
Ahead of the main YorKAOS week of events coming in February 2027, featuring site-wide workshops, screenings, and exhibitionsm Spark and YorKAOS are teaming up to host an exciting October Half-Term Art Competition for kids and young creators.
Whether your child is a budding photographer, a master of markers, or crazy about Halloween, we want to see their talent! All entry fees go directly to support YorKAOS’s chosen charity.
Entry Fee: £3 per submission (100% of proceeds go to charity: Door84)
Competition Categories
Submit your work under any of our four categories:
- 🎃 Halloween-Themed Art (Any medium)
- 🎨 Drawing (Any style or theme)
- ✂️ Mixed Media (Collages, textiles, multi-material art)
- 📸 Photography (Printed photo, size A4 or smaller)
The Prizes: Category winners will receive fantastic experiences at top local York attractions!
How to Take Part
- Pick Up Materials (Optional): Spark will provide paper and basic colouring supplies throughout the week. Just ask at our Site Office!
- Get Creating: You’re welcome to use your own supplies at home or on-site (collages, watercolours, pencils, etc.).
- Note: All physical submissions must be completed on white A4 paper (or A4/smaller for photos).
- Submit Your Entry: Hand in your completed artwork at Spark between Monday, 26 October (from 12:00 PM) and Friday, 30 October (by 3:00 PM).
- Entry Limit & Fee: £3 per piece (maximum 2 entries per child). 100% of entry fees are donated to charity.
Key Event Schedule
- Submission Window: Mon, 26 Oct (12:00 PM) – Fri, 30 Oct (3:00 PM)
- Judging & Exhibition Opening: Fri, 30 Oct from 5:00 PM (in SHOW & WORK)
- Winners Announcement: Fri, 30 Oct at 5:30 PM (in SHOW)
- Public Weekend Viewing: Submissions will remain on display in the venue throughout the weekend.
- Artwork Collection: Tues, 3 Nov

- Judging: All entries will be judged on Friday afternoon from 3:00 PM by the YorKAOS committee.
