Teapot Solidarity Space: Yoga for Social Justice

This is a monthly accessible yoga class for folks who care deeply about the injustices of the world. Yoga is a practice where freedom is at the heart. What can we learn from yoga in our movements toward social justice? How can the practice of yoga support us to navigate these deeply turbulent times?

Each month will be themed and we’ll explore the theme through movement, meditation, mantra, mudra and more. We’ll practice for 1 hour followed by 30 mins of discussion in community.

We will offer multiple options for each practice, you can practice on a chair or on a mat. If you’re practicing on a mat please bring one with you (it can be a blanket or towel if you’d don’t have a mat).

Price: We operate a sliding scale of £5, £7 or £10. Please choose the price that matches your affordability no questions asked and there is no judgement for the option you choose. If these prices are inaccessible please send [email protected] an email to get a discount or free place.

About Teapot Yoga

At Teapot Yoga we focus on three key areas:

1. Embodying yoga as a liberatory practice – yoga is a living tradition that has freedom at the heart. We are deeply passionate about practicing yoga for social justice. We also take the time to critique and shape the practice of yoga itself so that we continue to make this practice inclusive and accessible to all.

2. Accessible yoga – ensuring that any person who accesses our classes can find a way to connect with the practice.

3. Anatomy – we believe in embodied wisdom and we find that understanding our anatomy in intricate detail, from the mechanics of the breath to the way our femur bone moves in our hip joint, gives us the access to this wisdom. We become ultra aware of the physical body – an essential step in the eight limbs of yoga.

Teapot Yoga consists of Amy (she/her) and Charmaine (she/her). Amy guides the classes in York and will be your guide for Teapot Solidarity Space. Charmaine guides classes down in London and together, they both guide classes through their online studio.
