At SPARK, we’re passionate about creating opportunities for emerging talent – and our recent collaboration with York Comedy Society was a perfect example of that mission in action.
Earlier this month, our SHOW events space was transformed into a buzzing comedy club for an evening of stand-up, sketch, and spontaneous laughter, marking the second partnership with the society this year. Students from across the University of York and beyond took to the stage to share their work, test new material, and entertain an enthusiastic crowd of friends, locals, and visitors.
Headlining the show was none other than Drag Race UK star and all round icon Kate Butch, whose sharp humour, infectious personality, and professional flair brought the night to a fantastic close. Kate’s set perfectly complemented the energy of the student performers – and it was inspiring to see emerging comedians sharing a stage with an established talent in a supportive, creative environment.
The event was more than just a night of entertainment; it was a celebration of student creativity and grassroots performance. It reflected what SPARK is all about: offering space, support, and a platform for people to bring their ideas to life.
