One of York’s vibrant cultural venues, SPARK, is set to welcome drag superstar and York alumni Kate Butch for a one-night-only stand-up performance on Wednesday, 15th October at 7pm.
Known for their bold, fearless humour and appearances on BBC’s RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, Kate Butch joins a lineup featuring some of York ComedySoc’s most promising student comedians. From Marcus Crabb from Northallerton, North Yorkshire, Kate is an award-winning drag queen and stand-up comedian celebrated for her camp, bawdy, and theatrical performances. She became a fan favourite on Series 5 of Drag Race UK for her quirky humour and bold fashion choices, won BBC’s Celebrity Mastermind in 2024, and has appeared in BBC One’s The Power of Parker. Her drag name is a tribute to her favourite artist, Kate Bush, reflecting her love for the quirky and theatrical. The show, presented in partnership with the University of York’s ComedySoc, promises an evening of laughter, energy, and unexpected moments.
Butch’s appearance at SPARK marks another highlight in the venue’s 2025 events calendar, showcasing the best of contemporary comedy alongside emerging talent – and comes after Comedy Soc’s last sell out show with comedian Sam Campbell in July.
“We’re delighted to host Kate Butch at SPARK,” said Luke Castle, Marketing & Communications Lead at SPARK. “Their unique style and dynamic presence, combined with the creativity of ComedySoc, make this a must-see event for comedy fans in York. SPARK is a venue for everyone, and I’m delighted we’ve been able to continue our partnership with York Comedy Society as we celebrate local and emerging talent.”
