About Kyra
We are a registered charity in York that exists to help local women make positive and lasting improvements to their lives. In our unique organisation, we offer a range of 1 to 1 and group support activities and courses for women, from our safe and comfortable, city centre location. We welcome anyone seeking support based on and through the female experience – either those who were assigned female at birth or whose gender identity is female, gender fluid or non-binary and is over the age of 18: we have a young women’s project (the ROSE group) for those aged 18-30 (see under Our Projects).
Our door will always be open until every woman in our area feels safe, supported and able to be the person they always wanted to be. Our purpose is to provide non-judgmental support and information to all women. Whatever their reason for seeking help, we recognise that women face challenges in their lives that can be distinct from those of men. Our services are tailored to support women to make the changes they need to improve their lives, at their own pace.
We offer people who need our support a one-stop-shop to begin a journey of change, to address poor mental health, loneliness & isolation, and find ways to deal with and move on from bad experience or trauma in their lives. We are not a crisis organisation. We provide tailored support on a medium to longer term basis to prevent crisis from happening in the first place or to help people get their lives back on track after a trauma or issues with mental health.
