Q&A
Specialism:
I love objects and their tangible material nature. I am particularly interested in texture, and the blending, contrasting and manipulating of different textures across both written and physical media. I am also interested in temporality, how long materials last before they degrade or are transformed into something new, and how long an object exists in the world before it is lost. Currently, I am experimenting printing film photographs and photozines using a risograph printer. And as a photographer, I am preoccupied by light.
Influences:
At the time of writing, my influences are very much tied to work I am enjoying right now. With film photography, favourites include Lee Miller, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Peter Hujar (especially his Newspaper with Steve Lawrence).
MAKE space:
At this moment, I do not want my creative practice to be entwined with generating economic value from what I make. I intentionally rent the MAKE space at a monetary loss, but the importance of having a dedicated space to make and experiment is highly valuable and outweighs the cost of the space.
What is art for?:
For me, art is major part of what gives my life meaning. We reflect our lives back to us through art in an attempt to make sense of it, and everything I make is an attempt to make sense of life.
