Both SPARK:York CIC and Hikikomori Ltd (the business that operates the bars in our venue) are accredited Living Wage Employers, meaning that every member of our staff earns a Real Living Wage. We make part of more than 16,000 organisations that voluntarily choose to pay the Real Living Wage.

The real Living Wage is higher than both the government’s legal minimum or the National Living Wage. Instead, the real Living Wage is an independently calculated rate of pay that is based on the actual cost of living. It is calculated annually by the Resolution Foundation and is overseen by the Living Wage Commission, and is based on evidence about living standards in the UK.

Our traders are also encouraged to join the Real Living Wage as part of our social enterprise mission.
