Get ready for our very own festival dedicated to the craft, creativity, and community of local brewing. MaltFest brings together independent breweries from across the region to showcase their finest beers, ales, and experimental pours. From crisp lagers to hoppy IPAs, smooth stouts to surprise specials, there’s a brew for every taste.
Alongside tastings on Saturdays, throughout the weekend you can enjoy a silent DJ, a range of free family friendly activities, street food, and a buzzing atmosphere in the heart of the city. Whether you’re a seasoned beer fan or just love trying something new, MaltFest is the place to sip, savour, and discover your next favourite pint – all in your favourite local independent venue.
Click to meet the brewers below – and don’t miss out on tickets for the tasting sessions (when they’re gone, they’re gone).
Having been in (and out), and around the craft beer industry since 2013, founder and chief brewer, Paddy, long dreamt of having a brewery to call his own. In 2023, they decided it was time to either do something about it or stop talking about it. Starting on a low volume nanobrew kit, they create small batch beers which allows them to experiment, explore, and develop beers that are full of flavour and don’t compromise on quality for the sake of quantity.
Join their team on Saturday from 12pm-1pm for a beer tasting session.
Turning Point Brew Co launched into orbit in 2017, with Aron & Cameron calling time on their day jobs and never looking back.
Since then they’ve been busy brewing as many unique beers as possible, whilst modestly honing their craft, learning everything they can about this mysterious liquid, and trying their damnedest to cram as much fun into every minute of it as possible.
In 2019, they moved their brewery to Knaresborough, after two (and a bit) years at their original site in Kirkbymoorside.
They even have a bar here at SPARK – The Outpost was born in 2022, a teeny but terrific haven for all things Turning Point. Five draught lines pouring classics such as Disco King and Nova Pilsner, alongside rotating lines for the weird and wonderful: mint chocolate chip pale ales, mango sorbet sours and chocolate custard stouts.
Join their team on Saturday from 1:30pm-2:30pm for a beer tasting session.
At Lab, they do stuff a bit differently. They have a 200L kit, brewing small batch beer for all. Whether it’s a traditional northern bitter, a hearty Oatmeal Stout, or a contemporary and modern take on the West Coast IPA, they have something for everyone.
They brew in the heart of Yorkshire, in the old mining town of Castleford. All of their malt is sourced locally from Fawcetts Maltsters, based in the town.
Join their team on Saturday from 3pm-5pm for a beer tasting session.

Whilst trying to figure out the direction he could take the farm Steve was also turning his hand at home brewing. Never one to do things by half Steve’s home brewing kit grew and grew until one day it occurred to him that this was in fact his, and the farm’s, future!
