YNC Launch Community Lunch

York Nurturing Community (YNC) organised its first Pay-As-You-Feel Community Lunch at their newly refurbished cafe at Spark* this week. Along with a fantastic buffet lunch, attendees also got to enjoy a live music performance, and a free-play area for the kids. The cafe is now linked to the newly opened Community Theatre at Spark.

YNC is a community hub which organises 20 hours worth of social events at Spark*, and operates the YNC Kitchen - a welcoming cafe which serves a variety of delicious and nutritious meals made from intercepted supermarket surplus on a pay-as-you-feel basis. The Community Lunch served as the launch of the newly refurbished YNC Cafe and Zero Waste Store.  The refurbish was an in-house project by YNC, with wooden pallets being repurposed to complete the makeover. Spark* interior design specialists Helston Street also contributed to the refurb with some rustic home decor pieces.

Emily Deckers, owner of YNC says, “YNC is very excited to have access to the Community Theatre. We had a fabulous first pay-as-you-feel community lunch with a lot of our loyal supporters & some new faces coming to attend the opening.”

The event involved a delicious spread of cheeses, fruits, sandwiches and other treats, the kids enjoyed playing dress-up with props and costumes and all kinds of toys, while the grown-ups appreciated the live music and friendly company.

The attendees really enjoyed the food and had an amazing time with everyone singing praises for YNC and the newly-opened community theatre. The kids had a lovely time as well with some very reluctant to leave!
